A Year In Books – 2021 Quarter 4

Happy New Year everyone.

Made it. Just. But I’m taking it. 2021 was another hellish year for many reasons, not just the dreaded virus, but we’ve made it out the other side, and I got to read some cracking books along the way. You can catch up with other quarterly tallies on the links below, as well as seeing my full and final #Bookvent2021 countdown.

I can tell it’s been one of those year when I look back over my books read. Some of them I can barely believe I read only this year, others, I am shocked that it was so long ago. Today we take a look at my final quarter of 2021. Managed to finish some books … just about. One or two anyway – the finally tally will come at the end.

Even though the last quarter of the year was a challenge – no focus, lots on my mind – the books I read were wonderful and you can see a recap below:

Nowhere to Run by James Oswald
The Lost by Simon Beckett
No Way To Die by Tony Kent
The Commandments by Oskar Gudmundsson
Dead Mercy by Noelle Holten
Darkness Falls by Robert Bryndza
The Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons

Poetic Justice by Mark Tilbury
Good Cop Bad Cop by Simon Kernick
Fall by West Camel
Murder At The Castle by Lisa Cutts
A Toast To The Old Stones by Denzil Meyrick

November

The Couple on Maple Drive by Sam Carrington
The Cold Killer by Ross Greenwood

The Nameless Ones by John Connolly
The Strange Case of Mr Pelham by Anthony Armstrong

All For You by Louise Jensen

Demon by Matt Wesolowski
Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner

Darkness Rising by AA Dhand

December

Heartcross Castle by Christie Barlow
The Beachcomber by Rachel Amphlett
The Man Cave by Rachel Amphlett
Bitter Flowers by Gunnar Staalesen
The Arctic Curry Club by Dani Redd
The Undiscovered Deaths of Grace McGill by CS Robertson
The Village by Caroline Mitchell
The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett
Rizzio by Denise Mina
One Step Too Far by Lisa Gardner
Off Target by Eve Smith
Unhinged by Thomas Enger & Jørn Lier Horst
Faceless by Vanda Symon

The Hunting Ground by Will Shindler
Quicksand of Memory by Michael J. Malone
One Bad Thing by M.K. Hill

So there you have it. My final tally for the year is 202 books. Can’t complain about that. I enjoyed every single one of them. Over 54,000 pages read (apparently), books ranging in length from 20 pages to nearly 600. Fewer of the latter, obviously, or I’d have finished a lot less books in the year. I definitely made the most of the last few days of 2021, and the fact I had no work or social obligations at all, reading six books in as many days. Luckily for me I’ve still got three days until I’m back ‘in office’ so I hope to get this year off to a cracking start too.

I hope you all had your own fabulous reading year. I can’t wait to see what 2022 has to offer. From the books I’ve been lucky enough to read in advance so far, it’s going to be amazing.

Happy reading all

Jen x

    1. Thank you. Am trying not to put too much pressure on myself this year as I think the new job is going to need a lot of focus, especially in the early days, but it will be nice to have the distraction and there are some amazing sounding books on the horizon.
