About the Book

Done with a life of exploitation and violence, Lori Anderson is training to be a bounty hunter. Holed up in the Georgia Mountains with her reclusive mentor, JT, Lori is determined to put her new skills into practice. Behind JT’s back, she breaks his rules and grabs the chance she’s looking for. Will her gamble pay off, or will she have to learn the hard way?

The Last Resort is the first in the Rookie Bounty Hunter series of short stories, marking the nail-biting start to a high-octane series of thrillers featuring one of the most unforgettable and fearless female protagonists in crime fiction.

Mandie’s Thoughts

The Last Resort is a short story that gives the reader an insight into the Bounty Hunter training that Lori Anderson received from her mentor JT and kind of fills in the gap from Deep Down Dead. I read this straight after finishing reading the first of the Lori Anderson series so everything was still fresh in my mind and for that reason it all kind of made sense. I think that putting the training element into its own little story was a stroke of genius as it gives the reader an insight to what Lori went through without making it cumbersome and detracting from the story in Deep Down Dead. You really get to see that Lori’s attitude has always been there and she is determined to prove that her training has not gone to waste and no matter what JT says she is ready to go it alone.

For a short story it still packs a punch and has the same pacing as the full length books making it a great read. Although it is billed as Lori Anderson 0.5, I would still suggest you read book 1 before jumping into this welcome addition to the series as for me it just seems to sit better that way, but even if you pick this up first you will get an essence of what to expect and won’t spoil anything in the rest of the series and I kind of wish there were more of these short stories involving Lori.
