About the Book

Harry the Wonder Cat has been around since the beginning of time, and has been helping the Johnson family through life’s ups and downs for centuries.  Harry is no ordinary cat―and the Johnsons are no ordinary family.

Nikki Johnson and her friend Heather have been planning a quiet, relaxing Christmas holiday with Nikki’s beloved Aunt Lynn in the sleepy town of Harrot Reef. But Aunt Lynn summons them early―something is terribly wrong! Nikki and Heather rush to Harrot Reef, to discover Aunt Lynn’s crumpled body on the floor of the library, with Harry howling next to her. The only clues are a teacup, a copy of Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and a note on the mantel. This Christmas visit is going to be anything but relaxing….

As the two friends investigate, the townspeople reveal that according to legend, Nikki’s ancestor, crazy Frank Johnson, owned a rare, priceless pink diamond. But did he…really? And what does the legend have to do with Aunt Lynn? With the help of Harry the Wonder Cat’s magical powers, Nikki and Heather set out to discover the truth about The Legend of the Pink Diamond.

Mandie’s Thoughts

Harry the Wonder Cat is a charming cosy crime story with a little bit of magic thrown in for good measure. Harry has been tasked with protecting his human family for a long time. He must make sure that no harm comes to them but at the same time he is not allowed to interfere in their death.

When his current owner Lynn is found poisoned, the main suspect is her niece Nikki who has come to visit. The fact that there is no concrete evidence that she is the culprit, only the biased opinion of the local sheriff, does not seem to go unnoticed by Harry, so he enlists the help of his feline friends to see what they can do to find the true culprit.

Before you think that this is book won’t be for you as you don’t want to read a book about a cat detective, then you will be missing out on a real gem. Although this is billed as Harry the Wonder Cat, the main characters do seem to be Nikki, her best friend Heather and the Deputy Sheriff Greg Holloway. The story has a quick pace that will keep you hooked until the end with a few twists and turns along the way and likeable characters that you are willing along to find out what happened.  You also get to find out why the Sheriff seems to have such a grudge against Nikki and if he will ever get over the things from the past.

Harry the Wonder Cat is only a short book, but it packs a lot in. It will be interesting to see if there will be further outings for Harry and his gang as he tries to protect the Johnson heirs. For cosy crime lovers this will be right up your street and will help fill the coming winter evenings.
