Today I am handing the blog back to Mandie who is helping to close down the blog tour for Lisa Regan’s latest Detective Josie Quinn thriller, Her Final Confession. A big thank you to Noelle Holten of Bookouture for including us in the tour and providing the advance copy for review. Here is what it’s all about:
Watching her friend dragged away in handcuffs, Josie couldn’t believe for one second that Gretchen had killed that poor boy. Confession or not, someone else was involved. She would find out who…
When the body of a young student is found on the driveway of a local Denton home, a photograph pinned to his collar, Detective Josie Quinn is first on the scene. The house belongs to Gretchen Palmer, a dedicated member of Josie’s team, missing for the last twenty-four hours.
Working around the clock, Josie is stopped in her tracks when Gretchen hands herself in to the police. She knows that there’s no way Gretchen could ever be a killer, so why would she confess to a murder she didn’t commit?
Digging deep into Gretchen’s secretive life, Josie uncovers a link between the boy, the photograph and a devastating case in Gretchen’s past. But just when Josie thinks she has it all figured out, the bodies of a young couple surface on the other side of town. Can Josie get to the truth in time to save her friend from a life in prison or certain death?
Absolutely gripping, this unputdownable crime thriller from a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author will leave you gasping for breath. A perfect read for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.
When Josie and her partner Noah are called to a crime scene, the last thing they expect is that the house belongs to fellow Denton PD Detective Gretchen Palmer with the body of a young boy in the driveway and Gretchen nowhere to be found. With her partner and her boss both thinking that Gretchen is guilty Josie has her work cut out for her trying to prove otherwise. She doesn’t believe her friend and colleague is capable of such a crime and thinks there is way more to it than appears on the surface. When Gretchen finally appears and confesses to the murder, she has to go against everyone to find out the truth.
There is a real sense of loyalty between the team throughout the book which is why despite how everything is stacking up against Gretchen I found that, like Josie, I was determined to see that she was not one behind the murder. Josie has a sense of doing the right thing even if it means going against her boss. The budding romance between Josie and Noah just adds to the feel of the book as you can see that they know each other very well and agree that work comes first and foremost, never resenting when they get called to deal with problems.
The story is dotted with events in the past and you have to work out what they have to do with the present day and how they link toGretchen and why she is so determined to confess to the murder. This is quite a fast paced book filled with interesting characters that you can’t help but like. You get insights into their backstories, and a glimpse of why they act the way they do, but not so much that they become a distraction to the story being told.
This is the fourth book in the Detective JosieQuinn series but to be honest you don’t need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this fast paced book as it works perfectly well as a stand-alone. Yes there are references to other cases/stories but for me these just raised my interest in the books and a determination to go back and discover what I had missed. For lovers of police procedurals this is a series you should definitely check out.
