The #Bookvent Calendar 2017: Day 1

#Bookvent – Celebrating my top reads of 2017

And here it begins … Book one in my #bookvent countdown is one which was released in February 2017. I’d been sent a copy of the book in late 2016 and it had sat on the to be read shelf, calling to me, for many months before I finally got a chance to pick it up and dive in. And boy was I glad I did. I powered through this book which ticked every box in my list of things I love about literature – engrossing story, serial killer, Detectives skirting on the wrong side of right and whose dark secrets look set to bite them in the backside … macabre, chilling and just down right brilliant, my first #bookvent choice of 2017 is …

by Daniel Cole.

A body is discovered with the dismembered parts of six victims stitched together, nicknamed by the press as the ‘Ragdoll’. Assigned to the shocking case are Detective William ‘Wolf’ Fawkes, recently reinstated to the London Met, and his former partner Detective Emily Baxter. The ‘Ragdoll Killer’ taunts the police by releasing a list of names to the media, and the dates on which he intends to murder them.

With six people to save, can Fawkes & Baxter catch a killer when the world is watching their every move?

Loved this. Following Detectives William ‘Wolf’ Fawkes and Emily Baxter as they try to stop a serial killer from completing their deadly game, it is clear from the start that this is more than just a series of random killings – this is personal. I love the way in which Cole combines the classic Detective novel with a hint of the macabre. This is certainly not a book for the squeamish. The Detectives, particularly Wolf, are classically flawed, but they do make a dream partnership, one I look forward to seeing continue. Fast paced, almost frenetic at times, this had me guessing and second guessing myself and reading well into the night.

You can read my full review right here and order yourself a copy of the book from the following retailers.

Amazon UK | Amazon US | Kobo | Waterstones

Happy #bookvent reading all
