#Bookvent – Celebrating my favourite reads of 2016.
I love it when things aren’t quite as you expect and #bookvent book number 16 was absolutely that book for me. Another debut thriller this one challenged all my assumptions, making me root for a totally complex, deliciously perfect anti-hero. And he was meant to be the good guy. Book number 16 is
The Two O’Clock Boy
by Mark Hill
Oh how I loved this book. Duplicity, deception and revenge. Delightfully gruesome retribution carried out by a killer so scarred by their past. And our so called hero, Ray Drake, was so not what I was expecting. Secretive and evasive and yet so focused on protecting his family that nothing else mattered. I couldn’t trust him but I couldn’t resist him either. I was sucked right into this book and was not willing to go to sleep until I was done. It was a late night but it was worth it. There are twists and turns galore as you move from past to present, understanding the relevance of the ‘two o’clock boy’ and the circumstances that brought about his creation. I can’t wait to see where the characters go from here.
