#Bookvent – Celebrating my favourite reads of 2016.
My eleventh #Bookvent treat is another book I happened upon through NetGalley. Having just started out in blogging and putting myself and my thoughts out onto the tinterweb in earnest, the whole idea of the book, the danger of social media, of attracting the wrong kind of followers, had an appeal to me. And I’m glad I took the chance. Written by another debut thirller author, this book gripped from page one. The sense of jeopardy and threat to the victim of this story was right there in your face from the start. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to stop. This book got me really nervous and really excited. Book 11 is
Cut To The Bone
by Alex Caan
This book had everything. A broken hero; a DI keeping secrets; a less than trustworthy boss with a clear political agenda; corrupt businesses; jilted ex’s. It explores the dark side of social media; trolls, stalkers, jealousy. The pace is frantic at times, the tension building the longer Vlogger Ruby is missing. DI Riley’s team are a diverse bunch of characters who I am dying to learn more about. Zain is probably one of my key book crushes of the year (I love a dark hero figure). I was gutted when the book ended because I was enjoying it so much. I am still relieved to be living and blogging in relative anonymity with very few followers. I absolutely can’t wait to read the next book from Alex Caan.
