#Bookvent – Celebrating my favourite reads of 2016.
The next book in my calendar was one I picked up from NetGalley on a whim. I wasn’t familiar with the author (shame on me) but the premise sounded intriguing. From the minute I started to read the opening pages on one of my lunchtime walks I could tell this was going to be something special. There was an unbelievable naivety about one of the characters, a certain inevitability about what was going to happen that had me wanting to shout at my phone. I didn’t. That would have just been weird. Book 8 is
by John Hart
This is not a read for the faint of heart. It is a very dark subject, the fate that befalls the victims of this very vicious killer quite disturbing, even more so when you learn their motives. And yet the story drew me in. The protagonist is flawed and damaged and the suspect she is trying to protect equally so but for reasons well beyond their control. The scene is set in such great detail that you feel every emotion with the characters, feel every element of their personal pain and fear. Although I’ve not read anything by this author before, I certainly will in the future.
