My penultimate post on the #ReadABookoutureADay feature, but hopefully a little fun & sauciness for the weekend too. Because let’s face it, how else would you describe the books that bought bad boy Dixon Matthews into our lives? Yes. I have read both of these books and yes I thoroughly enjoyed them because even I, 41 year old thoroughly apathetic, mostly-agnostic-about-relationship-crap spinster that I am, like a little escapism every now and then. And who doesn’t at least like the idea of a decent bad-boy? No safer way to indulge than via a book and Dr Dixon Matthews from ‘Dirty Dix’ and ‘Wicked Dix’ by Monica James certainly fit that bill nicely.
The Official Book Blurb
I knew she was bad news when she walked into my office, but I just couldn’t help myself…
Filthy, sexy and full of surprises, Juliet is so hot she has me on fire. I’ve met my match and I can’t help going back for more.
Then there’s Madison… she’s sweet, funny and awakens in me a fierce need to protect her.
But I don’t do relationships. I don’t usually do the same woman twice.
Juliet and Madison: Two very different women have got me completely hooked.
Who will I choose?
I know who I should choose, but I never said I was the hero of this story, or even the good guy. And besides, who wants to be good, when it feels so good being bad?
My tale isn’t for the faint-hearted. If you’re game, strap yourself in and expect the unexpected. But don’t say I didn’t warn you…
So, some of you may have read this book, ‘Dirty Dix’, when it was first released under the title ‘Addicted to Sin‘, and to be honest, that’s a very appropriate title indeed. Dr Dixon Matthews is a top Psychiatrist specialising in addiction therapy, sometimes using his clients to satisfy his own secret addiction. Sex. Relationships are not his thing and random hookups keep his needs met. Until he meets two very different women. Juliet Harte is just like Dixon – addicted to sex and craving what she shouldn’t have. Madison Roberts is quiet and unassuming – exactly the opposite of Dixon and yet everything he wants. As you can imagine, this is not a hearts and flowers, beautiful romance kind of a book, and the complications that come from Dixon trying to balance his relationships with the two women lead to a surprising and complicated reveal at the end. Complicated for poor Dr Matthews that is. My review can be found here, but if you like your hero a little on the bad side, with an equally outrageous friend to boot, then this book will be for you. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger so when you’re done with this one, you’re going to want to read its sequel, ‘Wicked Dix‘.
The Official Book Blurb
I’ve always been a bad boy, with a very wicked reputation.
But then I met Madison – sweet, vulnerable, innocent Madison. She makes me feel as if there is hope for me. As if I could be a good man. I need her more than I need air to breathe.
There’s just one problem: Juliet. She’s a temptress who won’t take no for an answer. If I resist her, she’ll use our dirty secret to ruin everything with Madison.
I don’t want to lose Madison, but can I really change? This is my chance to prove that I can. But it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
Are you ready?
Okay. So its hard to say much about this book without giving away the big reveal in book 1. Learning something that could ruin his relationship with Madison for good, Dixon is caught in Juliet’s trap. Blackmailed into continuing to see her, his plans to play her at her own game go against his friends advice and the risks are high. But if it can protect Madison and stop her from being hurt, it will be worth it. ‘Wicked Dix’ is a sometimes moving, often raunchy return to characters that I grew to love in the first book. You just know that behind all that man-whore bravado is a guy who believes in love and family but had just lost his way. Whether he can find himself again, and whether it is Juliet or Madison who will help him to do that … Well you’ll have to read to find out. My review can be found here and the two books can be purchased from the links below. If you like a quick, quirky, raunchy read with a bad-boy hero, then you will definitely like these books. They made me smile and brightened up a night or two for me at any rate. There are some true laugh out loud moments when Dixon gets together with his friends Finch and Hunter, as well as some more awww sections too. And a few moments of flushed cheekage are likely too.
I loved these books. Must go back and read them again sometime. For me Dixon definitely falls into the ‘things to make you go mmmmm’ category. And it’s not often I say that now Sean Connery and Robert De Niro have gotten seriously old and wrinkly. 😉
